PYPX 8-week plan by Space PYPX Teacher
PYPX 8-week plan by Space PYPX Teacher
In this post, I compile and organize the 8-week plan I designed and refined during my years at ILG School (Kosovo) to implement the PYP Exhibition (PYPX) in a structured, progressive, and agency-driven way. This approach is based on my experience as a PYPX leader and has been documented step by step in six previous posts. I bring them all together here to provide a full overview of the process—from initial preparation to final reflection.
Before We Begin: Preparing the Ground – [Link to full post]
In this pre-phase before the official 8 weeks, students create their central ideas, lines of inquiry, and organize into teams. We discuss SDGs, mentors, and key learning skills.
Week 1: Designing Their Own Unit – [Link to full post]
Students create their own unit plan in personal notebooks: defining lines of inquiry, connecting with subject areas, identifying IB Learner Profile attributes, ATLs, and more.
Week 2: Planning the Action – [Link to full post]
Before beginning their research, students design a draft of their intended action. This helps them focus their inquiry and gives their project a clear sense of purpose from the start.
Weeks 3 & 4: Inquire, Research, and Share – [Link to full post]
These weeks are dedicated to the academic side of the project: 15 research questions, varied bibliography, transdisciplinary work across arts, music, PE, surveys, interviews, and more.
Weeks 5 & 6: Taking Action – [Link to full post]
Students begin implementing their actions. These are intense but deeply rewarding weeks. We also reflect on the importance of failure, giving space, and trusting students to lead.
Week 7: Showcasing the Project – [Link to full post]
Everything comes together: students rehearse their oral presentations, review a comprehensive checklist, and set up their stands. We record interviews, film, and welcome the school community.
Week 8: Final Reflection – [Link to full post]
It’s time to tidy up, reflect, and close the journey. Students write letters, self-evaluate, analyze feedback surveys, and even bury time capsules. Reflection is not just part of the process—it is the process.
Final Notes & Acknowledgements
This plan was created, implemented, and refined at ILG School in collaboration with an outstanding team of educators. I am especially grateful to the 2023/2024 PYPX cohort for making that edition such a memorable and meaningful experience.
